IBM Research - Zurich is the European branch of IBM Research, has approximately 300 employees and does scientific and industrial research in diverse fields related to computing, ranging from hardware to software and data analytics. The laboratory has been a leader in applied and basic research for many years, highlighted by two Nobel prizes in physics. Within the "Physics of Nanoscale Systems" group, led by Dr. Rolf Allenspach, experiments are being done in the areas of atomic/molecular manipulation, nanopatterning, and spintronics/nanomagnetism. Within the spintronics/nanomagnetism team, we investigate magnetic domains and domain walls under the influence of field and current by high-resolution imaging and explore spins in semiconductor structures by ultrafast magneto-optical methods.
