4th Network Meeting, IBM,

The first part of this meeting was the management meeting in which the fellows took part in the science session followed by the management team reviewing the project's progress to date.  Our fellows then stayed in Zurich to attend their final network training.

Summer School, INL,
Braga, Portugal, September 2015

 

The first part of this meeting was the Summer School followed by the management team reviewing the project's progress to date.  Our fellows then stayed in Braga to attend their network training.

The SpinIcur summer school 2015 was held during September 7 – 11 in Braga, Portugal at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) as part of the European project "SpinIcur". The summer school was attended by 46 students and 22 invited speakers and partners. Delegates from 22 different countries attended the summer school representing 37 different institutes from Europe, Americas and Asia.  The lectures covered a broad range of topics in applied research in spintronics, including the spin-Hall effect and magnetic domain walls, spin-transfer torque MRAM, magnonics and spin waves, the spin Seebeck effect and spin caloritronics and nanooscillators. In addition, the students had the opportunity to present their work totheir peers and the speakers, either through an oral presentation or a poster presentation. Prof. Russel Cowburn and Brad Engel inspired the students with their insight in how to start a company "From spin to spin-off".

2nd Network Meeting, University of Cambridge,
Cambridge, UK, September 2014

 

In addition to the management meeting and training, the 2nd network meeting included the important mid term review (MTR) meeting of the SpinIcur project.

The first part of this meeting was the management meeting in which the fellows took part in the science session followed by the management team reviewing the project's progress to date.

The MTR meeting gathered the fellows, partners, a representative from the European Commission (Isabelle Aires Pinto) and an external reviewer (Dr Olga Kazakova). This meeting was a opportunity to review the first 22 months of the network. During this meeting our network partners introduced themselves, the coordinator presented the project progress to date, each fellow give a 9 minute presentation, and finally the REA representative had the opportunity to talk direct with the fellows and feedback to the project coordinator.  The initial feedback from REA confirmed that the project is on track with no major issues.

Our fellows then stayed in Cambridge to attend their network training.

On behalf of the Leeds team our sincere thanks to everyone for taking part and for the contributions you all made to an enjoyable and stimulating meeting. During the ITOA the E(S)Rs were introduced to the network and the partners and undertook team building activities to foster an espirit de corps.
